The development of the Prudhoe Bay oil fields gave rise to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (1971), resulted in the Trans Alaska Pipeline, and enabled the startup of regional and village Native corporations. Today many of those Native corporations have over 40 years of business and operations experience in oil and gas production. Arctic Slope Regional Corporation, based on the North Slope, is the largest financially successful petroleum industry corporation in Alaska.
